Thank you, technology and circadian rhythms
We have been kind of fortunate regarding Ruary's sleeping habits. He has slept through the night (from like 8:30-6:30... we attribute this to perseverence and a good routine!) for quite a while, and thanks to the "90 Minute Baby Sleep Program" he naps well throughout the day. Seriously, he is so much more happier when he naps and naps and naps. Even though he has had a pretty acidy stomach today (lots of yarfing, don't know what's up there... hopefully this isn't reflux rearing its nasty head), he has been pretty happy because we kept on top of the napping. Although the book about the plan isn't exactly a fun read (a bit repetitive), it's creepy how it works. I highly recommend it.

We just transitioned Charles to his crib at night. It has been tough, because he'll go down for about an hour at 9 or 10 pm, and then wake up and want to sleep with us. So then we take another hour to get him back to sleep in his own crib. He wakes up twice during the night for food, and after the 4 am feeding, we bring him back to sleep with us for 3 hours. Mostly because we miss him in our bed. Why is sleep so difficult sometimes? What is your nighttime routine? I need any and all advice...

That is awesome that Ruru is a big boy in his big boy crib...Tell Rick to get some sleep.

Our routine involves taking down the activity in the house a few notches (taking the dogs' collars off so they can't "jingle" Ruary awake!), turning down the volume on everything, basically just lowering the energy. Then it's diaper change and sleeper time (we do baths earlier in the evening because they actually seem to key him up more than anything). He goes down in the crib, where he gets his pacifier. We turn on a little stuffed dog that plays white noise sounds (a heartbeat, ocean, rain, etc) and we have a turtle that projects stars on the ceiling. It all sounds hokey and over-the-top, but we have done this since he was a few weeks old and I really think that these things trigger his "okey dokey, time to sleep" mechanism. Usually, in about five minutes he spits out the pacifier and is out like a light. Of course, other nights he is more difficult to get to sleep, but eventually we get there.
